They will be utilized eventually – I told my wife years back that they will start off like VCRs; at first only the rich could afford the $5000 units, in a couple of years they were down to $2000, a couple more and they were down to $700 etc etc. The first ones for public sale will be only for the rich, but in 5 – 10 years they may be an option for the dwindling middle class. Each one will have a basic sweep of duties it could perform, and then you will have to pay extra for more specific functions.
There aren't enough people for the low paying jobs.? Corporate America does not want pay raises that keep up with inflation ; instead workers are told to tighten their belts while upper management gives themselves yearly bonuses. It's all about maximizing profit.

Comparing the Tesla concept, guy in a suit aka ''robot'' to the Boston dynamics actual robots is an insult to robotics in general.
Elon is doing the same thing he's been doing for a decade now, drumming up support by making outrageous claims he literally never delivered on. Where's that hyperloop? Where's that Tesla Truck? Where's that taxi? What ever happened to the Boring company project? Elon Musk is just memes and fake hype at this point. His on stage presentations are a clear demonstration of that.
Sending tens of thousands of satellites into space with a life expectancy of 3-5 years just so people have internet is beyond absurd and is just another one of his projects that he hypes up like crazy only to the drop it once people have a different thing to concentrate on.
To me, it honestly feels like every single one of his idiotic outrageous claims is just designed to draw public attention away from his last outrageous claim that obviously went nowhere and that's why his claims are so far out there. Because nothing normal, reality based is going to draw the kind of attention as a claim about colonizing mars etc
You can't be upset that his solar roadway bs did f*** all because you're now directed towards his Tesla truck being new and amazing but wait… you can't be mad about the Tesla Truck being a total and utter failure on every conceivable level if you're exited about the Hyperloop and you'll have forgotten all about that hyperloop nonsense if you're now focusing on his Skynet idea… which will obviously get dropped once funding is pulled… just like every other one of his claims that isn't an overpriced electric car… something that already existed before but didn't have the brand name behind it.

I totally agree with your basic concept – I honestly think Elon sees the Tesla Bot as the key to colonizing Mars … think about it: Those initial missions to Mars can be done with a small army of Tesla Bots – they don't require food or oxygen – only energy (solar power will easily solve that issue) – the initial missions will be dangerous, of course – so any catastrophic failures won't involve the loss of any humans – only some (relatively) inexpensive and replaceable Tesla Bots – and that small army of Tesla Bots can be used to create enough of the basic infrastructure needed for a true Mars colony that is populated by both Tesla Bots and humans, where all the most dangerous tasks are given to the Tesla Bots, of course … and those first missions to Mars will clearly be used to debug and clear the way for the arrival of the first humans that arrive on Mars – it's a simple and obvious gameplan … great analysis! I've been talking to my friends and family about this since the Tesla Bot was introduced on AI Day – they all think I'm nuts and that it's unrealistic, but as my favorite tee shirt says, "Don't Bet Against Elon" … 🙂
There are so many things left out due to… lack of understanding I assume. There won't be robots as described by the video for a long (long) time. Boston Dynamics toys are great, but even with the very short duration of their huge batteries, they can barely last an hour without recharging. That's limits it's versatility at the very least.
Then there is it's perception and autonomy: the most impressive feats seen in robots are those in pre-designed places with pre-designed obstacles and tasks; they are basically brainless boxes without the ability (or very narrow) ability to respond to changing circumstances. Even self-driving vehicles (the whole hyperbole) face huge problems in the streets where they thought the factors could be, somehow, managed.
What leads to the next issue: the acronym "AI" is an hyperbole, an interesting one but that does not reflex real intelligence but rather pure brutal computational calculus. No machine so far is neither intelligent or solves problems in the way human do, they merely cut difficult corners and reduce time, they don't offer solutions nor can respond to real life events in ways that could make the neither safe or effective, so far.
(There could be a "brute approach" to imitate real AI by making the stupid-box have so many possible responses as to at least, deceive a person, a la Turing test, but that's different from intelligence, that's a Chinese Room deceit).
The aforementioned problems are not invincible, but in the same way that in the 50's and 60's people's ignorance lead them to think that robots were about to come on their next decade, now too people is lead to believe BS: the road to such kind of robots will be SLOW and, we like it or not, we a very steep and painful learning curve: aspiring to have an emulator of one of the most complex living beings on the planet (we, Humans, with our intelligence) can't be an easy task made in a couple of decades, perhaps it will take centuries for something compared to fantasy-robots.
The analysis fails again regarding the "replace humans with robots" simple approach: Musk tweeted that for the Berlin Gigafactory he installed a HUGE gigapress, the biggest injection press of the world capable of molding on one piece what would've been 70 different parts, he boasted that the gigapress REPLACED hundreds of robots, making it way more effective, energy efficient (and so on and so forth). So the: "just little robots for human task" may have some provisional applications but will never compared with an impressive just-for-the-task designed machine (or robot), it simply does not make sense. You can see it on the animal kingdom: each animal is maximized for its own niche successful way for survival (yeah, there is some versatility, but within certain constrains).
