So they made the new battery bigger. 5.5 times bigger. How is this an improvement if I enlarge my fuel tank and claim I have a longer range between refueling because of new tech?

Maybe you can check directly ND3 with isotope N-15 after making it as replavement of D2O about 900 kPa at 20°C liquid without pressure out up away also reactor quickly out then you can let make also RBN cubic boron nitride with isotopes B-11 & N-15 & ThO2 or UO2 baked inside called also white diamond ohot harder short CBN used for crucibles insoluble unburnable etc. a well know super material already about 100$/kg as RBN super for reactors better graphite for fuel or absorber rods and pebbles also for CANDU. What you can also test is fission to fusion ratio of U-235 in D2O with a little U in D2O as solution and exact measurements already some fusion from neutrons but more with bigger fission particles and 167 MeV later Hg out of ring accelrator like small LHC shoot in water causing punsh fusion and spallation to Hg-197 epsilon decay gold with less neutron reabsorption or shooting protons directly in H of H2O like on Hg in spallation neutron generator. The 4680 will no doubt supplant lead-acid batteries used in IC cars. I think 8 of them 4S 2P would be all that most vehicles need for engine starting and running accessories.

Really Really great video! One wonders whether the Tesla Team is secretly also working on producing graphene as a substrate or the actual textile to function as a component of either or all of the Anode, the Electrolyte or the Cathode. If graphene could function as the electrolyte; finally the phrase "game over" will have meaningful meaning! Go Tesla Go godammit!!!

Tesla is an innovative company in many ways fall short in battery packaging.

Patented 4680 architecture isn’t ready unless the associate problems are addressed and resolved.

Issue? All lithium ion cell packaged in cylindrical metal casing :

(1) use a preloaded electrical tab runs in between anode and cell base, has been removed in 4680 by Tesla. Problem-1 depletion of electrical path count from anode-flaps to cell base one after another until all anode becomes open circuited, immediately follow by a spark next to hot and flammable chemical. Root cause? Anode foil are made of annealed soft Cu can be bumped out of shape and open circuit under inertial shock on a less ideal road surface.

(2) of smaller diameter cells use heat sink at the cylinder wall, early model 3/Y, 4680 use heat sink at cell base via (point contacts). Most everyone handling heat sinking issue calls for gap less and preloaded thermal consuction interfaces, and not with point contacts as in 4680. Problem-2 overheating chemistry followed by spark induced or self ignition otherwise premature battery aging.

The claim that 46mm is more than twice as wide as 21mm seems reasonably true to me.

The reason other don't want to make the 4680 is they don't want to absorb the poor yield and the large diameter make it difficult to remove heat from the center.
